Hotel des Academies et des Arts Blends Art and Modernism in Paris
On the Left Bank of Paris, just a stone's throw from the Saint-Germain-des-Peys district, a boutique Hotel with an artistic soul has been quietly relaunched - Hotel des Academies et des Arts. This 19th-century building in Montparnasse, once the studio of Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani, is now the brainchild of interior designers Stephanie Lizee and Raphael Hugot. Incarnate as a house of art that breaks away from academic norms and integrates the spirit of modernism.

Reveals freedom and creativity. Inspired by the Montparnasse district, interior designers Lizee and Hugot invited a number of outstanding artists and artisans to participate in the decoration, filling the space with layers and a sense of story.

"We wanted to break with tradition and juxtapose modernist paintings, stainless steel pieces and handmade ceramics with vintage elements to fill the space with contrast and tension," explains Lizee. As a result, the ceramic works of Maximilien Pellet replace the traditional French gallery hangings, where charcoal paintings, nude drawings and metallic installations coexist to give the space a unique artistic atmosphere.

The interior of the hotel has a monastic sense of serenity and is awakened by the pioneering spirit of the 80s. Some rooms feature oak niches with sculptural dark wood chairs and plaster sconces, providing a restrained and elegant quality. But in the details, tubular seats, curly wool and chrome-plated elements inject a rebellious and modern feel into the space. This bold combination of simple lines and a sense of irregularity makes the entire hotel full of artistic tension and visual rhythm.

Franck Lebraly created 12 murals specifically for the hotel, inspired by pastels, Picasso and Vallauris pottery traditions. With frenetic lines and impromptu brushstrokes, he recreates classic themes such as lawn lunch and still life, adding more readability and artistic interest to the hotel space. In particular, the fresco design on the ceiling creates an experience of "paintings looking down at people" - when guests lie in bed, pillow their head and look up at the ceiling, they can be immersed in the world of art.

Describing his concept, Hugot said: "I wanted the mural to present the premise of the creation, like the preparation of a sketch." This sense of uncompletion makes the space more open, inviting each guest to interpret and feel it in their own way.

At Hotel des Academies et des Arts, every detail of the design has been carefully considered, creating an overall atmosphere that is both free and sophisticated. The tables in the lobby, for example, feature carved wooden legs, an element that Hugot cleverly tweaked to make it a visual focal point without overcrowding the space or seeming cluttered. "The eye doesn't have to rest on everything," he explained. "The real art is often in the purest details."

Hotel des Academies et des Arts is no ordinary hotel, but an experiment in art, history and design. It inherits the artistic spirit of Montparnasse, but expresses it in a new way - both nostalgic and avantgarde; Both restrained and bold.
